Perseverative thought processes and their manifestations

Dear Sir/Madam,

Before you decide whether to participate, we would like to briefly describe the purpose of this study and what your involvement would entail, as we believe you may be eligible to take part. Please take the time to read the following information carefully and consider your decision with complete discretion.


What is the purpose of the study?


We would like to invite you to participate in a research study investigating the relationship between certain thought processes and to Hierarchicaly Taxonomy of Psychopathology (HiTOP) framework. HiTOP is a dimensional model of psychopathology that organizes symptoms into hierarchical dimensions. Specifically, the study will examine recurring thought patterns and their content that may be related to individual differences.


Will I be allowed to ask for additional information?


The researchers are and will be available to answer any questions you may have, if something is not clear to you about the procedure used and the experimental goals.


What will your involvement require?


Your participation will consist in answering some socio-demographic questions and filling in some questionnaires about your attitudes and lifestyle.


How long does the participation last?

 

The study is expected to last approximately 30 minutes; however, this is an estimated duration and may vary for different participants.


What are the possible disadvantages or risks of taking part?


We see no possible disadvantages or risks of taking part in this experiment apart from those usually encountered in the everyday life. Anyone who takes part in the research will not take any risk of a physical nature that could in any way harm him/her or undermine his/her integrity. If you wish, you will be free to leave the study without giving any reason.

 

Are there any benefits related to the participation?


Your participation is an opportunity to enhance scientific knowledge about how and why you and others tend to think in different ways. An individual return is not anticipated due to the anonymity of the results; however, it can be provided in aggregate form upon request.


Will my taking part in the study be kept confidential?


Yes, all the information you provide will be anonymized so that those who access the research results will not know who contributed to it. If you consent to participate in this study, you will be asked to permit to the processing of your data and to use them for statistical analysis that will not identify you.

We hereby inform you that, in accordance with Legislative Decree 101/2018, the "Personal Data Protection Code," and EU Regulation 679/2016 (GDPR), your personal data will be processed in full compliance with the applicable regulations. The processing will adhere to the principles of fairness, lawfulness, transparency, and the protection of confidentiality and the rights of the data subjects. 


Rights of participants


Your participation in this research is completely voluntary. You may refuse to participate and may withdraw at any time without consequence or repercussion. If you decide to participate, you will be asked to sign the Informed Consent Form. If you later decide to withdraw your consent and/or from the study, you may do so without any consequences or explanation. By signing the part of this document called "Informed Consent" you do not lose any legal rights or the right to leave the study if you wish to do so. If you have a desire to request further information about the study you may contact the study experimenters.
